Current Awareness Services


Current Awareness Services provide an automated way to keep up with research interests. Users choose a specific database, periodical title, or publisher and specify the topics in which they are interested. Then they receive automatic emails or RSS feeds directly from the database or publisher with new articles that relate to their topics. Or users can choose to receive tables of contents of specific periodicals via email.

Several of the article databases subscribed to by Murphy Library offer current awareness or email alerting services. These are available to UW-L faculty, staff, and students. A number of non-subscription current awareness services are also available to the public.

These services usually fall into two categories:



IngentaConnect
Use the IngentaConnect InTouch alerting services to stay informed of the latest journal literature via New Issues Alerts (Tables of Contents) as well as Search Alerts. Over 30,000 journals in a very wide variety of subject disciplines are covered.

Cambridge Scientific Databases (ProQuest/CSA) Authentication Required 
Resource Temporarily Unavailable Note: This resource will have a new and very different interface soon.
Large collection of citation and abstract databases focusing on natural sciences, social sciences, arts & humanities, and technology.
Type of Service: TOC and Alerting via email.

Instructions: Access a Cambridge Scientific database, select Help & Support, click the Search tab, then search for "alerts."


EBSCOhost Databases (EBSCOhost) Authentication Required 
Multiple full-text databases are available on a wide variety of subjects.
Type of Service: TOC and Alerting via email and RSS feeds.

EBSCOhost Electronic Journals Service (EJS)
Use the My EJS feature to stay informed of the latest electronic-journal literature via Tables of Contents Alerts and Search Alerts. Over 8,000 e-journals in a wide variety of subject disciplines are covered.

Resource Temporarily Unavailable Due to unreasonable publisher practices and low use, UW System canceled this package 2/11; we will lose access on 3/1/11.
